We are hiring a media relations specialist to join our client. This position is ideal for a person with a proven track record of earned national media results (print, online and broadcast) who would thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven, collaborative environment. Our media relations specialists are responsible for driving agency relationships with media, creating compelling pitches, and delivering media results that ladder back up to our client’s business objectives. Must be quick-thinking, adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to produce high-quality work/results.
What will you be doing as the company's newest media relations specialist? Every day is different, which keeps it fun and fresh, but some of your responsibilities will include:
Consistently deliver strong, media results that are tied directly to individual clients’ objectives.
Build and cultivate relationships with media and key influencers across industries relevant to your clients/projects.
Stay abreast of trends relevant to your individual clients’ businesses, and, as appropriate, leverage trends to identify media relations opportunities for clients.
Follow shifts and trends in the media landscape (e.g. major organizational or staffing developments at popular news outlets) to understand how it affects the PR industry/clients.
Fearlessly innovate when it comes to how and what we are pitching.
Research and develop compelling, news-worthy storylines to deliver earned media opportunities for clients.
Act as an unofficial mentor/coach for the account coordinators/account executives as they continue to learn how to master various media relations skills (e.g. pitch writing, developing media relationships, creating a strong media list, etc.).
Maintain media lists and press kits and assist in development of press releases, talking points, etc.
Develop media relations portions of relevant monthly reports to ensure that all media opportunities/results are included and represented correctly.
Partner with account leads to ensure that work done for clients is within the approved scope of work and allotted retainer hours.
Counsel clients on media trends, new angles, and media talking points.
The TL; DR version: We’re hiring a media relations specialist who plays by our House Rules. We need someone with hands-on experience securing media, particularly national TV, for a broad range of clients who’s ready to innovate best practices and infuse creativity.
